GRAN TURISMO 6
Written by w2n on March 25, 2011 – 11:02 pmDespite the fact that Gran Turismo 5 has only been sitting in our trays for mere days, we’ve got our eyes set firmly on the future again.
Call it a sign of our attention-deficit times, but barely 24 hours have passed since Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi revealed that Gran Turismo 5 is finally, finally finished, and already he’s being asked if Gran Turismo 6 is in development. Even more shocking: It turns out that Gran Turismo 6 is already in development.
Speaking to Autoweek, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed development of a sixth title in the racing franchise is underway. When asked about a release window for the game, Kazunori was reluctant to give any further details.
“It’s not something that we can talk that lightly on,” he said. “It took 2,000 days to get all the ideas that went into GT5. It’s just too early to be talking about GT6.”
So in other words, maybe ask again in about 3,000 days? And as for why it took so long to get Gran Turismo 5 finished — particularly the last-minute extra time following a delay just weeks before its set November 3 release date — Yamauchi explained that it all goes back to what he considers his failures on his first game, Motor Toon Gran Prix for the PlayStation.
As for the latest on Gran Turismo 5, Kazunori recently told autoblog Jalopnik that game discs are currently being pressed, suggesting a release of the game is coming before the end of this year. Sony wouldn’t confirmed details to us when asked, however. but said we’ll get launch details soon.
On Sony’s official online store, a release date of November 30 for GT5 was posted, but Sony says the date is simply a placeholder.
